O verbo “get” é um verbo bastante polivalente. As pessoas ate brincam: “Quando não sabe qual verbo usar, use o “get”. Hoje vamos ver o verbo get usado como. “chegar”.
O verbo get só é usado como chegar quando é usado juntamente com o destino.
Vamos exemplificar:
“What time does he get to the office?”
Nesse caso, vamos usar a preposição “to”, diferentemente do verbo arrive, que sempre vem com a preposição “at”.
Assim:
- I get to work at 7 – I arrive at work at seven.
- I get to the subway station before 8 – I arrive at the subway station before 8.
Cuidado com as exceções (sempre tem), que não aceitam nenhuma preposição. As mais importantes são home, downtown, there e here.
Observem:
- I get home – I arrive home
- I get there – I arrive there
Não se usa preposição com “downtown”, “there” e “here”
